Mk7 FWD ABS Front Discs and Pad replacement

Postby Peter Milston » Mon Jan 08, 2018 9:16 pm

Hi Guys Mk 7 FWD ABS. I need to replace my front discs and pads and rear pads. I've searched for ages (Forum and U tube) to find a link for best method to do this but with no real luck. Has anybody got a link to a good method video or photos. Most I've found are for RWD. Thanks

The FWD and RWD are pretty much the same at the front....

The RWD rear discs are different but there's not a great deal in it...you'll need to "wind" the rear pistons back into the calipers because of the handbrake mechanism. Front pistons should just push back in.

Rwd is just the same except it’s a driveshaft on a fwd as a posed to a dummy shaft.

Much better practice to open the bleed nipple then push the piston back with a G-clamp. :)

Yes, but one method runs the risk of reversing the MC seals, not to mention overflowing the brake reservoir if it's been topped up religeously.

True...but those of us who know that will know not to push too hard and keep an eye on the fluid level...People who don't know how will usually get someone else to do it..!

I use IDS to bleed my brakes these days.... coz I'm a lazy sod..! :D

Nipple procedure still applicable with rewind tools. :)

But yes, push pistons back gently and hell rarely visits you.
