All changes next month

 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -fine.html

It can also prevent a vehicle that has been MOTed early & failed. Being sold off as "MOTed" with old MOT left to run.
Buyer would not be able to tax the vehicle due to being recorded as FAILED 8)

It's the same then according to that ?
Just a fine for no mot
No points

It says....

"Even though a certificate may run for another couple of months, if a vehicle does not pass the MOT - made tougher by the new rules - motorists will face a fine if caught because the vehicle is recorded as no longer road legal on a national database.
Drivers are being reminded of the dangers, which include a driving ban and points on your licence, ahead of new MOT rules set to be introduced across Britain on May 20."

old rule - although badly written

Which lead to this
Same here  http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/c ... lty-points

Put vehicle through MOT early & fails on a tyre. Under new MOT rules a tyre that's below the legal tread depth of 1.6 is listed as a "DANGEROUS" defect. & will state on new MOT Refusal "Do not drive unit repaired"

You then drive away from MOT station..... obviously to get new tyres fitted. 8)
You're essentially driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

"You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition."

I can't see the point of putting a vehicle in for a test a month early, if it fails you lose 1 month on the ticket or is it if it fails, gets fixed and passes does the new one start the date the old one expires?.

I'm normally a day or 2 late as i forget  N

It used to be a 200 sov fine and the Gestapo would get the vehicle taken to a nice garage somewhere that would mot it, fix it and charge you for the said mot and repair and storage fee while it's there  before you could have it back, that's what I've heard on the grape vine   N

If it goes in for MOT today will they be testing it under the current regs or the new ones? i.e technically a vehicle could pass under the current system and get 12 months mot but may fail next month under the new regs?

If vehicle is put through MOT before May 20th- It will be tested to current MOT rules.

After May 20th tested to NEW rules.
& yes it could pass under old rules. But fail under NEW rules. :(

For example it just passes diesel smoke test under default limits on old MOT rules.
Then fail on diesel smoke test when tested against manufacturers emission limits on NEW rules

THIS only applies to commercial vehicles after 2006. so euro 4 on ward are the targets, but now all HGVS have to be smoke tested. and doesn't matter what year it is either

but yet their is plant out their over 30 years old keeping the economy going. HENCE the making of the new hs 2 etc. but hang on we will send all are polluting diesels to 3rd world countries  ,

and know their is the electric bollocks. its OK we will go to the 3rd would countries, where we can dig and mine a we can  using the old machines we exported  so us a country get to are targets for low emissions

WHAT A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS this country is f***

and

what the f*** have I done . brought my kids to this world for what :(

Unfortunately Diesel smoke test against manufacturers limits is applicable to all diesel vehicles (Class 3,4,5,6 &7)1st used from 1st January 1980
If manufacturers limit is not listed then default limit is used...
We do know that Transit mk6, mk7, mk8 & Custom all have manufacturers emissions limits listed. Transit mk5's (Euro 2) also have them listed too, as another member on here pointed out.

Also a note to make. - Diesel smoke test "Fast Pass" is being withdrawn & will no longer exist from May 20th.

Just to clear up on the issue of Diesel oxidation CAT's, DPF & EGR valves.....

egr.jpg

Fuel tank / Exhaust heat shields...
More common to be removed when they either fall off or rattle against exhaust or body work.
Hope people still have them handy to refit.
They too have been added & if missing it's a "Dangerous" defect :!:

Is there a list available to "Joe Public" which details various vehicles and there "limits"?
Wondering what my 2.2 Civic (08 plate) limit is, will have to see if there is a "plate" with that info on.

There is for petrol vehicles as they are tested to manufactures emission limits & have been for a few years now.
(Vehicle emissions database is uploaded to emissions test equipment)

As for diesel vehicles. Manufactures emissions limit is listed on Vin label. (Usually on bottom right corner of label/plate)

Fords from 2000 onwards. Limit is listed just below engine code. - As shown below circled in yellow.

2005 Ford Transit Connect 1.8 TDCI 90ps - Engine code BHPA

2000-2006 connect vin TDCI 90ps.jpg

2003 Ford Transit mk6 2.0 TDDI 100ps - Engine code ABFA

2003 Transit mk6 TDDI 100ps.JPG

2006 Ford Transit mk7 2.4 TDCI 140ps - Engine code H9FB

2006 Transit mk7 2.4 140ps.jpg

DVLA will be creating a database for all diesel vehicle manufacturers emissions limits.
- As they are aware that vin labels can be defaced in an attempt to prevent emissions being tested against manufactures limits....
