Yep, its the #9 wire on your stereo loom.
Wire it to pin 14 in the original ford stereo plug or the corresponding wire in your loom adapter.

Unless you tap the wires coming from fuse 75 or 76 in the hidden fuse box for the side lights.

If you post a good picture of the loom adapter ( the loom that bridges between your stereo and the ford plug ) then I'll know for sure.

Oh, ok.
Id take a feed from the wire behind pin 14 as shown in the diagram above and take that to wire 9 on your stereo.

Ok thanks, there was a label on top of new unit (can't see it proper in pics) that said original plug pin12 was illumination but it didn't work so will try pin 14 tomorrow.
cheers :)

Yes I really should buy a manual.
I just thought it strange that the buttons light up when choosing a colour in settings, although only for a second or so.
I got side tracked again with this whilst routing wiring for the rear camera, so once I sort connections at rear door I will pull unit back out and try pin 14.
Just annoys me when something doesn't work as it should.

You'll possibly find they use the same basic system for many different vehicles and just change the facia to suit each model machine....a "one size fits all" mentality...When I fitted mine I had to do a little bit of "creative wiring" to make it work properly. I guess it would be difficult to cater for all variants of every vehicle...they supplied all the extra gubbins for steering wheel controls etc, mine's a poverty pack and doesn't have steering wheel controls, so what do I do with all the extra supplied wiring, just remove it and move on I guess..??

Mirror, reverse, unfortunate flattened child stuffed into a wheely bin if needs be.

Finally wired the illumination,pin14 didn't work though had to use red wire under it. I now need a longer lead for camera then all done. I ordered one last week then realised it was in china  so just bought another and should have it for Saturday.
Thanks for all your help lads.

How did you get on with the dash clock? I'm still trying to figure out why mine just went to --:-- a short while after installing the 3rd party head unit..

The factory head unit controls the clock - remove it and the clock isnt the default display on the dash.

Press one of the spindles by the dash clocks and it will return.

Just dont disconnect your battery as its a bugger to set the time from the spindles.

Only thing ive noticed is that the time is wrong on dash but my battery was flat the other day so I thought it was that. Now after seeing richgold's post I guess that may be the reason so looks like
I need to try and set it the hard way, once my manual arrives and I see how to do it.
SWC was easy and iphone works without any playin around.Hands free was a surprise as I thought it may be a pain with iphone, and using it as hotspot for internet was a breeze.
Well chuffed with it to be fair.

Hi - I'm looking at getting a similar rear view camera setup - would you recommend it?

How does the camera / number plate look from the rear - is it really noticeable?

Are the images any good on the head unit?
