Aye, it certainly wasn't a real Ford one, but if I'm any judge of these things, it came out of the same factory and off the same machine as OE ones.

Latest update:

Received the revised oil cooler from TPUK along with the updated longer hose required (ordered together). After a slight hiccup with missed messages they also were kind enough to supply the necessary longer bolts for free too (and threw in a new sump plug I'd enquired about buying as well to make up for the hiccup!).

There is a clear difference between this part and the other one I purchased from another seller on ebay initially. The TPUK part has a much neater, higher quality casting, holes are drilled more precisely and the interface between the oil cooler radiator and the oil filter mount appears to be manufactured to more precise tolerances.

The oil filter and oil filter mount both have part numbers and manufacturer's stamps, however they have both had the manufacturer's name ground off. As Jim said, I'd also wager a lot of money they came off the same production line as the genuine branded parts. ;-)

For anyone else reading this and looking at fitting this updated oil cooler - my earlier estimation of the required bolt sizes turned out to be correct. Five x 35mm and one x 75mm, all M8.

Hi John,

Was going to check the hose I was supplied really is the correct length today before I gave you the part number, however today didn't quite go according to plan... Busy tomorrow but will check on the weekend and post back.

Cheers,
Rob.

John - I've swapped the old oil cooler for the new modified one from TPUK now. What a pain that job was - Ford don't make these things easy to access! The worst bit was getting the hoses off as there's hardly any room to wiggle them about. A heat gun ended up helping get them to let go...

The new design makes it much easier to access hoses and bolt heads than the old design. I can confirm that the hose recommended by TPUK is definitely the correct one for the modified oil cooler:

The eBay listing is here:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-EG ... 2975217007?

On the packaging for the hose it has a label with the following info:

"THH3
Transit Heater Hose Rubber MK6 MK7 - 4164703

YC159Y438CA
Loc"

Not sure which bits of that label are useful.

Cheers,
Rob.

Thanks for the comments, some sellers are listing aftermarket parts as "O.E" on eBay when they are for sure not. Not much we can do about this though as eBay do not want to know.

Hi guys. This thread is great. Looking at doing the conversion myself on my
MK6 di as I have a oil leak between the block and the cooler sandwich plate. Any long term reviews? Was it worth changing to the MK7 version?

No problems with the new cooler at all since I fitted it. I would definitely go for TPUK again - have had much better products from them than other sellers. If you wish to buy from Transit Parts UK (TPUK) be aware that there is/was another business trading under a very similar name, so make sure you are dealing with the business you think you are (see logo and phone number listed under their forum profile a few messages back in this thread).

Thanks for the reply. What was it like doing the job? I’ve got next weekend off so gunna do it then if the parts turn up in time. Have ordered some longer bolts like you said above too.

Is this the hose you used?

You can see where mine was leaking and dripping through when the van was running!

Me again. Can anyone confirm the part number for the hose needed? I ordered the one in the link above but got the people selling it coming back to me telling me it’s the wrong one. They asked for my reg which makes
Me think it’s telling them I need the Mk6 one, but I need a MK7 hose don’t I? Thanks.

Assuming your van is the same model as mine (see first post for details), the part numbers and all the info you're asking for are already in this thread - call TPUK and speak to them by phone if it's still not clear, they're usually very helpful.

That ebay link is now several years old so perhaps they updated the listing since then? Ask them to confirm which hose you need and what numbers are printed on it then you can compare with the info I posted at the time in one of my earlier posts.

Just checked that ebay listing link and it still lists the same part number that was printed on the packaging of the one I received years ago, so I don't think they've changed the listing...
