MK7 Always fitted with remote locking

Postby jschuld » Mon Jan 15, 2018 11:37 am

Hi All,

I've just recently purchased a Mk7 transit LWB High Top to convert to a camper van. The van came with only one key, which is a normal non-remote key. I would be keen to have remote locking, especially as we will be using the sliding door as the main entrance often.

I know you have to learn new keys/remotes for the MK7 through the OBDII, and happy to invest in that, but what I can't find is if ALL mk7's by default have remote locking. I.e if not then I'll just fit an after market alarm, but if it does, I quite like to get an original key etc.

Is there any way I can see if it was originally sold with a remote, or possible to add one? I've checked ETIS but that does not show much. Also, I've checked for the "CDL" unit as posted in this thread (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=64974) but can't find it at all, maybe it's only for MK6 transits?

Any insight appreciated.

Cheers
J

I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, Mk7's have RCL as standard. If you have only one drivers door lock, then that would confirm it I think. The locking is controlled by the BCM, there is no separate module.

New RCL keys have to coded with Ford IDS, but can be bought from a lot of places, and the blade cut by a locksmith :)

My 2007 motorhome does not have central locking. It's a key only ( or my case two keys because I fitted deadlocks).

If you have the full listing from etis then look for an entry that says:-
Remote Control Door Entry - 2 Fob

To physically check if it's fitted the remote locking receiver is mounted above the front headlining at the front of the roof.

Try pulling the front interior light down and looking through the hole. for a black box.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Not sure why I did not see it in ETIS but it's here

With Door Entry Remote Control Unit

Will have a look for the receiver box anyway but might be worth to try to get an extra key (need one anyway). The IDS tool seems to come quite affordable on AliExpress so might give that a go.

Edit:
There it is!

Just be careful which one you get...can be a bit of a lottery if they work or not.
