2010 MK 7 LTD

Postby pepepluisje » Mon Jan 15, 2018 12:00 pm

HI GUYS

happy new year to everyone; hope its cool for you all;

i have a issue with my van which is a bit of a pain as i cant take it to any garage here in france as they will simply say i need a new van !!!!

i am reffering to the sudden loss of my voice command ability; i must admit i rarely use it, only now and again to select radio or disc, and other than that, its not used; but i like everything to work if its fitted;

i last used it some 2 weeks ago and it worked and beeped as required; i tried it this morning but nothing happens when i press the button; no bleep or anything else; no drop in radio volume etc etc, is it possible i have unknowingly turned it off, or is there some way of reactivating it without taking it to the garage, who would just shrug their shoulders and say i need a new dash board !!!, which unfortunately is how i have encountered their diagnosis skills in the past: !!

everything else works on the steering wheel and paddle except that ?, any ideas would be gratefully received

Have you tried the old faithful of turning it off and on again, by disconnecting the battery for a while :?:

Failing that, is the mic still working :?:

hi;

no i haven't tried disconect !! would i have to do that under the seat or under the bonnet ? i have no idea if the mic is working ? how could that be tested ?;

when all was ok, when i pressed the button on the stork, the radio volume went quiet then the bleep to indicate your were in voice mode but when i press it now, i get nothing, no bleep, no drop in radio level so it doesn't sound like it is the mic, ?? however, i had flat battery a few days prior to the loss of the voice control: and i dont recall if i tried voice after i got it charged, other than when i noticed the voice not working, if you know what i mean, so it may be something to do with that ??

From what you've just said, I reckon a power down reset is worth a try, so you need to disconnect the battery under the seat (the front one, if you have two) You might be able to disconnect the earth strap on the front RH side of the seat base, to save getting at the battery itself, whichever you find easier :)

Leave it powered down for 10 mins or so to empty all capacitors in the radio. Then re-connect, making sure the connection is clean and tight.

Make sure that you know the radio code if it needs one to reset.

If you have a single battery, you can get at it by sliding the seat forward, and lifting the cover. If you have two batteries, the front one is the one you need to disconnect, so you might find it a bit awkward to get at without removing the rear one, unless you take out the seat.
Always disconnect the earth wire first as touching metal with a spanner is always a possibility. As I said, you might find it easier to remove the earth bolt on the outside front of the seat base, door side, this will save having to get at the battery itself :idea:

ok i will take a look at the options,, it sounds like the earth bolt is the easiest route if i have two batteries, but thanks for the help, it will hopefully resolve the issues, i will let you know how i get on

hi mate

ok great , all is working now, i did try to remove the earth strap at the front of seat but i couldn't release the step cover to get at the bolt, even though i removed the plastic clips ? and not knowing what was what, i didnt want to force it, so just removed the earth at the battery; fortunately i found the radio code, :) :) so thanks again for your advice, :D

kind regards

Great result, thanks for posting back, as it's always good to conclude a problem for the next person 8)

There's apparently a bolt under the step which releases the cover. I had the same problem trying to remove it, but I ended up working around it :)

hi

well i like to think it is good manners at the very least to reply and conclude, especially as it was your time and advice which resolved the issue in the first place !!!; surely everybody would think the same way wouldn't they :roll: :roll: :)

thanks again

You're right, it is basic good manners, but sadly not everyone has your respect for peoples time and trouble, so there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of threads on here which have no conclusion. :roll:

My technical expertise is well below that of many on here, so I'm happy to have helped out in this case :D

makes you wonder if there should be a proviso that if they post is not replied to then they will undergo a period of suspension from using the site :?: ,

with regard to you expertise, its better than mine, so thats good enough as limited or not, you were right :D

happy days and good weekend;
