Something screeching!

Postby mattt429 » Mon Jan 15, 2018 2:36 pm

Something was screeching a beauty on me van.

Dropped the belt and the noise goes, so it must be on the accessory belt system somewhere.

Changed the PAS pump for one down the scrappy, also changed the belt tensioner and fan belt.

Still got the same screeching, only now, the screech is only at idle and goes away with a bit of gas pedal?

So i'm guessing that leaves alternator pulley, idler pulley, or fan pulley?

Although they all seem fine when turned by hand?

Anyone got any suggestions?

Have you fitted a new belt?, if not I'd try that.
Some people are like slinkies.... not good for much but bring a smile to your face when you push them downstairs.

I would have thought that would have been the first thing to change

I've fitted another belt off the van down scrappy, very clean belt, very little wear and NO signs of contamination

Hi Jim, i did check the crank pulley as i've just had a new single mass flywheel and clutch fitted so it did worry me.

However, all seems well. I had a listen with my screwdriver on certain points of the engine earlier and it seems like the alternator is making the noise.

I dont have a battery light on yet and the battery is charging, possibly the pulley starting to go or even the interior mechanics of the alty?

Either way i've just got some pretty cheap breakdown cover, I'm sick of spending time fixing this bloody thing

I'll be sure to update this thread with the relevant offending part... when it does eventually die lol

Thanks :)
