Injector Pilot Learn

Postby ally69jack » Mon Jan 15, 2018 9:24 pm

I've done a quick search on this forum and cant find this exact problem. I own an MK7 FWD 2.2 Transit Trend 11 plate. I've just had the PCV and PRV replaced. The PCV is a denso and the PRV is Ford. The Injectors programmed first time, Pump re-learn went through first time but the Injector pilot learn wouldn't go through. The dash now says engine management problem which you can cancel but every time you start it you get the same message. there are no engine management lights on. What could be stopping the injector pilot learn everything else is working fine. It drives better now to as the rattle under acceleration has gone. Any help much appreciated.

What did you do with the injectors? You said they programmed up?

Hi Loot there was nothing done to the injectors all that was replaced was the SCV and PRV. It was a mate who did the computer stuff. His exact text to me was
Injectors programmed no problem
Pump re-learn went through first time
Injector pilot learn wouldn't go through

It gives a list of possible faults fuel pressure being one.
Pressure is 34 mpa, should be around 33mpa

any ideas what it might be

9 times out of 10 it is bad injector/prv.

Injector correction factors get programmed in once when the injectors are installed otherwise there's no programming to do only the pilot learn.

Prv can be crap clones so unless they are from an authorized seller I guess they can be hit and miss, generally the price gives it away ie 25-45 pounds.

You should get a leak off test done on the injectors. 4 min tickover 25-40ml less is acceptable but more isn't.

Hi Loot

The PRV was sold as a genuine ford part from tpuk but it only cost £15, I take it that means it will be crap. I will get a new one from ford if that doesn't fix it will try the leak off test, my mate has access to a ford computer. Will a bad PRV stop the pilot injector learn. He did try putting the old valves back in but didn't solve the problem, this is the first time I have tried to save money by not using ford parts, should have known better.

15 pounds

It does pain me to say it but Ford only, I've spent many hours before now messing about with customer supplied valves only to replace them with genuine and pass all learns first time

That said tho.

You should do a leak off test and be sure that there's no other leaks etc.

You can try the learns a couple of times.

Was the original prv blown?

I did ask how the SCV and PRV looked and he said they didn't look to bad. Where can I get a good leak off test kit, the guy I know works for BT going in to talk to him today. Will probably bite the bullet and buy a Ford SCV and PRV I was quoted £250 from my local dealer. The van was running ok before but was just starting to hunt. This only started after it had a full service. I like to stay on top of these things as the van is my pride and joy.

I made my own leak kit with 4 little bottles and some windscreen washer tube :-)
You can probably get a cheapish 1 from eBay tho.

I paid 160 at Ford for my valves I'd say 3-4 years ago and they're still fine on the van which I've sold over a year ago Lol.

That's a result :-)

It's a shame that the cheap valves don't seem to work reliably :-(

Yeah...makes you wonder why they bother making them. Just a money making concern I suspect....
