16 inch transit tipper steel rims

Postby wicklabilly » Tue Jan 16, 2018 3:27 pm

Well 2 of mine are rusty and losing air thru hairline cracks where the tyre beads onto the rim. See the photo. Anyone got 2 mint condition rims they wanna sell me or should I buy new at £75 each?

Upto your self ? Could weld then and keep your eye out for a set ?
What about a nice new set form a mk8 tipper they look much nicer than the mk6/7 and there’s always a set for sale , easy pickings when there no locking nuts

Having had a couple of repaired wheels fail on me over the years, I would go for the replace option myself. If you can't find some good, non-rusty, used ones, then the the new ones don't sound too bad, pricewise :)

Altransit & Squirrel,

Thanks fer the input. So ya reckon the MK8 rims are a direct fit to my old MK6 and are rated similarly with regards to load and speed specifications?

Tink i'll have a sniff on ebay.

Should be rated to 3.5T have a look and see, I stay at the end of the road from a salvage auction and there’s plenty of lads who run around in recovery’s with them , they freshen the truck up

Lad i just looked at some MK8 rims on ebay and the offset appears to be different to the MK6 rims, i have no idea what 'offset' means though!

I only needed 2 rims so i bought em from Ford Parts UK in Wiltshire.

When i rang them up they quoted £115 each plus VAT  so ordering them online nets them for £73.25 each plus VAT and delivery making a grand total of £192 :D Ok it's alorra alorra money but at least i know they are rust free, brand new with a new paint finish and won't need rubbing down and repainting like a used set may do.

I may demount the tyres on the other 5 rims afore i take a holiday and have them inspected, bead blasted and powder coated so they look a bit more respectable.
