Dead giveaway right there...your EGR is not working properly. Probably sticking fully open or fully closed until warm.

Might just need a good clean-out and lube of the mechanism..! They eat the exhaust and will easily clog up with crud if doing lots of short trips or city driving etc...they tend to last better if doing a lot of motorway traveling. Courier and/or postal vans doing start/stop delivery driving seem to suffer worse too.

A lot of people just blank them off and have it deleted via PCM mapping, but the new MOT rules coming in this May will have possibly them in trouble. No such issue here in Aus though.

A jolly good rogering with cleaning solvent will see you sorted, they're not that delicate....but you'll need to pull it to pieces to do it properly, just need to be a bit careful of the stepper motor electrics. When mine started playing up a couple of years ago, I just fitted a new one and then "cleaned/refurbished" the old one.... and now have a good spare.

Blanking it off may help with the running issue, but it will throw up an EML...also MAP/MAF & turbo "overboost/underboost" fault codes. They can be "mapped out" but as I mentioned, the new MOT rules will catch most people out.

try temporarily unplugging EGR valve or fitting a blanking plate to the EGR feed. That may help to discover if your EGR is causing the rough running .
