Faulty indicator stalk or relay???

Postby Darbuck » Wed Jan 17, 2018 8:21 pm

Hi all, I have a MK7 t280 2.4 and when i turn on the lights all is good but when i go to switch to high beams they will stay on as long as i hold the stalk forward but as soon as i release it the go back to dims. would the stalk/switch be at fault or the relay??

Mk7 you pull stalk back and the main beam clicks on, pull back again and they click off,

You don’t push the stalk forward :?

Sorry that's what I meant. When you pull it towards you which would be back. I have to hold it back to keep high beams on if I let go the go off right away.

Relay r13 controls the main beam, you could try swapping it with another to eliminate it

If you pull the stalk gently you get the flash function.
Pull it more firmly and it gets the bcm to toggle between dip and main or vice-verse.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Checked relay this morning and it was good. Got replacement stalk at breakers and all is fine now. Also got new egr and fitted it, bit of a pain to do but not too bad. Engine management light went out straight away. Now just may find where wiring is damaged for worn pads as light is still on after all pads changed!
