Output flange bolt missing

Postby daraioj » Tue Jan 23, 2018 7:48 pm

Hi everyone, while doing some work under my van today I realised there's a bolt missing on the transmission output flange (I believe that's what it's called).

I checked catcar.info but it only says "bolt".
Could anyone please tell me what size they are and the torque they take?

Is it ok to just get a bolt, washer and nut and tighten it or does it have to be checked for alignment or anything like that? Should I replace all three?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

A standard metric 8.8 bolt is better than a missing one, measure the diameter of the hole. Looks like 12mm x 80-90mm.

Dealer is probably your best bet.

I don't get it. They don't just come off, do they?

I guess it must have been taken apart in the past and not reassembled properly, which is worrying.

It's not for us mere mortals to question the why, you just need to fix it before the prop takes a Benny.

Not sure about the prop side but the flange side are M14. Think the prop side are the same?
Get some studlock on them too when going back in.

Those I could find. It's M12 on 5-speed and M14 and 6-speed gearbox.

It's the other three (the ones I'm missing) I can't find much info about.

Same with the torque settings

Ah yes sorry didn't register the "5speed" bit,
Either way get some studlock on them and I'd reckon a torque of BT should do it, as FT would be too much.
I'd be tempted to go with the same torque as the others if there the same size though. And at the values given in the pics I'm guessing there 10.9 rather than 8.8

Hey Knobby, thanks for the reply but if I'm not reading it wrong it's HB2 I'm missing. Which by the way seems to be installed the other way around according to catcar (with the nut on the gearbox side). Not sure if that makes any difference anyway.

Fair enough.....why don't you just pull one out and take it to your local hardware store and pick up an 8.8 equivalent..!?? That would be better than the original.
