Any recommends for fitting a ply/carpeted roof to a SWB Mk7

Postby llekra » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:16 pm

Doing a day van conversion and want to keep as much space as possible.

Am thinking three pieces of ply but how is best to attach to the roof so it can be removed?

Thanks for any help

Screw 25x15 mil wood battens to the roof x members the length of the van then screw the ply to the battens on my last van I carpeted the plywood off the van by laying the carpet on a clean level floor then I stood the ply on end sprayed the carpet glue onto it then lowered the bored onto the carpet and walk on the board to press it onto the carpet then cut it 25mil oversized and glued and stapled on the top side forgot to say I drilled and test fitted board to roof first when the carpet was glued on I used a bradall in the holes from the backside to make it easy to find holes to refit with the screws thro the carpet and ply it’s easy to remove and not do any damage to it

I used bits of wood on the mk7s
But its not the 1990s anymore so ,
on the custom I used 6mm plastic rivet's to fasten the ply straight onto the roof spars

Drill drill thump
Splendid :)
