cam shaft sensor

Postby george999 » Tue Feb 06, 2018 8:57 pm

Well the transit has been off the road now for 2.5 weeks with a broken crankshaft sensor bracket , it has taken over 5 hours of bloody hard work to drop the box and prop as the bolts were so difficult to get out had to heat a few then there was one that would not shift ended up welding another nut on to that .Finally done all this just to replace a sensor bracket,(very bad design by ford) got it all back together and the bloody van wont start as it now says the cam sensor is not working / misaligned ,
Do these sensors just go like that ? as it was starting last week by wiggling around the crank sensor put a new crank sensor in and now the cam sensor plays up????

and can someone tell where abouts on a mk7 RWD 09 plate this sensor is please

The cam sensor is on the inlet side of the head, just above the inlet manifold between cylinders 3 and 4.
Pull you current sensor out and see if it clean.
Because they contain a magnet they pick up any metallic bits that get loose in the engine.

It's item 12K073 in the image below.

mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

You have got the crank sensor set correctly? And your diagnostic kit can see it?

mk7 jumbo non starter

Well after dropping the gearbox and prop and putting in a new bracket for the crank sensor, then taking a reading and a cam sensor error so replaced both of these sensors and no codes and she still wont start not even attempting to fire.
So sat she has to go to the main dealer must admit i feel like i got no option on this but to let them sort it out its cost me about 700 in lost earnings and £300 in a repair bill that has not fixed it no i dont know where else to go.

SORRY GUYS its 09 PLATE 2.4 SO FAR in less than 3 years its had recon injectors ,starting motor, gear cable ,new batteries, new front pads, and has broken down about 6 or 7 times in the last year every time it rained heavy , but im sure this has been related to the crank sensor.

i`m not sure tho if its a tdi or what

model is a 115 t350 if that helps?

Is your diagnostic reader able to see both sensors?

Crank sensor wires trapped between engine and gearbox will show that fault
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

Is there no another wire/plug in that area on the rwd that can get mixed up ??

They don't have a speedo harness, but they do have a reverse light switch harness. Heard of people mixing them up before, I believe the plugs are similar.

just had the RAC out to have a look and there is no RPM at turnover and the crankshaft sensor is loose, she also seems to be drawing a lot of current as well, so tomm morning she will be recovered to the nearest dealer.Which is adams morey
