bulkhead removed now got a really noisy van

Postby mhp932 » Sun Feb 18, 2018 9:24 am

Hi, I've removed the bulkhead from my 2009 transit and its really noisy driving it now, will insulating and lining the inside stop most of the noise, don't want to spend the money if it doesn't sort the problem
Thanks
Mike

Insulating does help. But the resonating can be fixed with a heavy curtain. Also helps keep the heat (or cold) in the front.

thanks for info
Bulkhead needs to stay out as I've fitted a double swivel, probably will get it insulated and carpet lined soon

My van was very loud initially when stripped back. All of the following have noticeably helped:

Sound deadening pads (sound control) on single skin metal areas on side/ceiling & doors (removed low frequency panel noise).
Insulation (bubble), plywood & vinyl flooring.
Insulation (recycled plastic bottle) & carpeted ply panels on walls & ceiling.
Carpeted wheel arches
Big memory foam mattress
Adjusted sliding door rollers

These changes have taken it from fatiguing noise & shouting to have a conversation at speed to being pleasant and having conversations at normal volume.

No bulkhead curtain in place yet, but I do plan to add one at some point.

I think a lot of the noise I'm getting is either coming from the tyres or rear wheel bearings, cause as you drive along the droning noise gets worse when cornering, can you get quieter tyres ?
thinking of fitting alloys in future, what size wheels / tyres works best on a transit
