Wiring Colours

Postby MartinB » Wed Feb 21, 2018 4:38 pm

I have a habit occasionally of driving off with a door open, usually the side door not shut properly, the last time a rear door open. I plan to tap off the little red light in the speedo and install a new bright light in an empty switch housing. I found my way into the instruments (very useful video on YouTube) and was sure I found the right wire (red and yellow) but that's not it.
Does anyone know the colour of the correct wire? One of eighteen going into the back of the instruments. Or point me towards a wiring diagram. 2011 85T260.
Thanks

The door open or ajar signals come from either dedicated switches or the lock mechanisms.
They go to the bcm which uses the can bus to send an instruction to the instrument cluster to turn on the warning light.

There is no direct wire from the locks to the instrument cluster.

Crazy idea.

Why not just try remembering to shut your doors?

Much easier.

Ned, seems I do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Richgold, remembering doesn't work, I tried it. Adding an extra wire to a bulb holder doesn't seem crazy to me. Just need the right wire assuming it gets 12V.

V8dave, thanks but you don't help. Don't know what bcm or can bus means or where they are. So could my plan work if I find the right wire?

Its a picture of the Zeebrugge :?

Anyway why not fit a switch to the rear and side doors and run a wire to a light on the dash :!: N

I'd advise you not to tamper with the wiring of your van if you did not understand my information.

THERE IS NO RIGHT WIRE.

You would need to install door switches and a light that are separate from the van wiring.

I've got a big arse red Switch between my drivers seat that disconnects the powerall system inverter, power converter and lots of led strips in the back, my bulkhead hides it all and 9 times out of 10 I turn it on to use the back for changing clothes, take a sh*t or whatever but I forget to reset the handle in the front :? It can be a week that it is all left on before I jump in the back again and realize I've left it on so a little light on the dash sounds like just the ticket :-) or ignition switching or something else maybe a hole in the bulkhead?.

Listen to this guy. He's right.

Looking for the right wire at the clocks will land you with a bill from an auto electrician, or worse, from Ford.
