Clear them and take the handbrake off and 1st gear so the van doesn't roll, then check codes again, it should not be there now. It is an older software.

It wasn't just wipers it was all sorts of things going on after the initial fault

So far been unable to do a successful BCM upgrade reprogramming with forscan but was my first attempt last week and more playing to be had.

Well it's been weeks since I last updated my progress on the BCM issue. It's been on the back-burner since I haven't really needed the van for a while. I installed Forescan on my Win XP laptop and connected to the van using the modified ELM327 (USB) recommended by Knobby. I was able to perform the "module reset" on the BCM as recommended by Grogan. (That can be done without the Forescan "extended licence" which I will need to do the PATS programming if I install a replacement BCM.) Anyway, it doesn't seem to have done much. Most of the issues I had were intermittent and are not showing up anyway, the only permanent issue I still have is the parking lights staying on. I tried disconnecting the light switch as recommended by Loot, but the lights stayed on. It does appear to be the BCM keeping them on since when you turn the ignition on (but don't start the engine) the lights go off, but then when you start the engine, a couple of seconds later the lights turn on. They then stay on all the time after that even when you stop the engine and remove the key. Strangely, if you turn the ignition back on (but don't start the engine) the lights will go off and if you then turn the ignition off the lights stay off but only for a time since they will turn back on some minutes later. I presume the next step is to try a second hand BCM? The only thing I haven't done is check every earth connection but I have checked the major ones and everything was tight and clean.

I measured the major earth connection between chassis and starter. it looks oke but I measured full resistance so I will change it this week.
My situation is still the same, when I stop the van, the parking lights and the lights come on, and the lights go off automatic after 1 minute.

Sounds like the config isn't correct. If it is faulty then the headlights stay on and the instrument cluster ones do (iirc)
Have you had config error etc?
Without me reading again I've forgotten where we're at.

It might not be that but worth a check.

I only have two fault codes showing - accelerator pedal is out of range (but it still works), and front washer switch fault.

I had various intermittent faults, the most serious being on one occasion engine refused to crank. Headlights stayed on once after I switched them on - wouldn't turn off even after removing ignition key; Doors locking by themselves (I didn't see this but the garage it was towed to when it wouldn't crank reported this to me); and the one that has become permanent is the parking lights staying on.

I think it's time to try a replacement BCM. It's a bit risky driving it around in case the non-cranking fault reappears and I get stuck somewhere.

The warning light on the dash that looks like a gear with an exclamation mark in the middle, is that the powertrain warning light? It came on a few days before any of the problems started. I am assuming it has been triggered by the accelerator pedal fault and will go off when that is fixed? Does anyone know if it's worth trying to repair the accelerator pedal unit or should I just replace it? I would go for a second-hand item if it needs replacing.

Yes replace pedal. There cheap as chips now the mk7 is getting old.
The faults you describe sound very similar to how my faults developed starting with pedal.
Don't just measure but just replace earth from engine to chassis then you know it's good.
Also recommend replacing chassis to battery earth. Check and replace all suspect earth points in engine bay.
Replace BCM again there cheap now ~£25 here from a breakers last time I got one.
And install and configure using asbuilt info. Do not suck and blow from old unit as an error I had transferred to second BCM and only disappeared when i got another high spec BCM fitted and loaded it from asbuilt rather than from file.

As a belt and braces epoch I replaced the engine and cab harness but I think that wasn't completely necessary.

I fitted a replacement accelerator pedal (AU$100 secondhand unit) and that has cleared the fault codes associated with the accelerator.
The parking lights are still on all the time. Sometimes they start to flash on and off at a similar frequency to the turn indicators!
I have purchased a secondhand BCM to try. I have Forscan and would appreciate a bit of a tutorial in the steps required to configure it using asbuilt info as I haven't done it before. Just the basic steps involved would be enough of a guide as I could figure out the details myself. I understand I need two keys but I only have one original key and a clone I had made from that. I understand that will not work as it is in-effect two identical keys. According to the local locksmith he can change the programmable chip in the clone key I have to a genuine chip to suit the vehicle model that will then work with the PATS programming.

I've only successfully installed van with asbuilt using IDS I'm sure it must be possible with forscan but not successfully tried it.
