All your starting issues could just be a duff ignition switch..!! A well known problem with some trannys.
Ah a TDCi....that means it's the "Son of Satan"...The Mk6 TDCi machines are well known to be "temperamental" at best...They're also well known for killing injectors and fuel pumps...
Might pay to get a new fuel filter, pop the old fuel filter off and cut if open to see if there's any metal swarf in there.

No the light when I turn the key in ignition turns solid red and stays that way for about 40 seconds then starts to flash
