Earths and battery power....

Postby gavcarter » Wed Mar 14, 2018 8:00 pm

Mk6 fwd tddi. Having a disco today on the dash. Bumps were putting coil light on and cutting out.
Never seen so many codes in my life on a single vehicle.

Pump comms, pats comms, pump watchdog, EGR etc etc.
One that stood out is pcm main relay.

So it looks like I have a loose connection and the rest of codes are triggered by power cut. Sounds right if I wemt slow and avoided bumps it worked fine for longer.
Battery is new a fortnight ago.
Checked battery leads also checked the main powerleads under bonnet. None were corroded or loose.
Any ideas where else to try?
Is ignition switch funny on mk6 or only mk7?

Mk6 & Mk7 ignition switches are the same..!

Possibly yes.....they are a common failing point...mine started going south a couple of months ago...had intermittent starting issues with it...has been good since replacing.

For some reason,I can't remember really having a problem with ignition switches on the mk6,whereas the Mk7s were common....

Is the battery actually secure to vehicle, seen them not clamped properly and sliding about under the seat !!

Oh,and pump comms, and watchdog, coil light and cutting out over bumps + mk6 fwd
= possible pump wiring harness chafed at end of starter motor body...

No it's not clamped. Hasnt been for the past year or so lol. First place I looked was battery because of this lol
Yes I was aware of that Frag, and will be giving it a good look over.
I have a feeling due to other codes, pats, pcm relay etc that it will be something simpler...
I hope lol

You'll get pcm relay codes logged from something as simple as a flat battery,
But also if it cuts out while running,as with pats.

Move stuff about while it's ticking over see if if hiccups,
I think when you go near pump wiring.......

Cheers Frag thought they'd be more likely caused by loose connection. I will give it all wobble tommorrow and see what's what
