Diagnostic tool advice

Postby x818 » Thu Mar 15, 2018 11:50 pm

Just wondering if it is worth investing in one of these (konwei kw850) or is my money better spent elsewhere. Any help and advice appreciated, thanks in advance

The free software ForScan and a cheap £15ish ELM327 is your best bet for diagnostics. It has most of the features of the dealership software 'Ford IDS' except it's much easier to set up and use

Take it I’d need a laptop to run that off and how do I get hold of forscan software. Just out of interest would I be able to do diagnostics on my galaxy with this software, I’m new to this electric business

It's best to do it with a laptop as the windows software has the most features plus it's free. There is also a version for Android / iPhone so you can use it on a phone/ tablet but it's about £5 for the app. Well worth it or the money though.

If you follow the link in my signature there a some compatible ELM327's listed and the download link for ForScan

So I can use my iPhone to do the diagnostics?? If so saves me getting a laptop, I’m stuck in the dark ages! Thanks for your help

Thanks for that Ned think I’ll order elm327 WiFi then and try it on my iPhone for starters, any advice on a decent one to get, prices seem to vary massively. Thanks

Your best bet is to search for 'forscan' or 'modified elm327' on ebay to be sure to get one that works as there are some out there that aren't compatible
