Mk7 EGR and Manifold removal & clean

Postby Federalul » Sun Mar 18, 2018 11:04 pm

Hi folks, newbie here, got a 2010 mk7 transit 2.2 85bhp..
a few weeks ago the engine light management came on, maf sensor related code. Changed the maf sensor and deleted the error but the light (error) came back after a few miles.after reading a few threads on this forum now I’m planning to take off the egr & manifold and give them a clean (change the glow plugs while I’m there) but being a newbie I was wondering if anyone has done it allready or if there’s any “how to” thread you could point me to (couldn’t find anything myself)?

Thanks

Mine turned out to be a split intercooler hose.

I get p1103 error so there must be either egr clogged or maf sensor wiring fault as maf sensor has just been changed (error deleted) but it comes back after a few miles..

MAF or MAP sensors rarely fail. It's usually a result of a duff EGR or split boost pipe.

It's best/easier to remove the inlet manifold first, you'll probably need to clean the manifold out anyway, (it'll be full horrible of oily spooge).... two of the EGR bolts can then be removed from the top, the other two can be "got at" from underneath the van...trouble is, in the UK they corrode horribly and almost always are near impossible to get out without grief....they either round off or snap off.. :(

dosen:t sound to good so could mean engine out ? is it safe to put heat on the bolts. Did think of cutting out the old EGR and fitting a new one or blanking off both ends of whatever is there.

You're going a bit overboard to remove the engine just to replace the EGR....just pull the inlet manifold off, makes things a lot easier.

You're also wasting your time removing the EGR and/or blanking it off, it will fail at MOT time as of May 20th...they'll be checking for fitment and operation after this date....big fines apply if found with non working or non existent EGR valves.
