Sluggish 140ps rwd, turbo whistle, and fuel leak

Postby riauba » Mon Mar 19, 2018 5:58 pm

Hi, bought non runner transit on copart auction without an idea what is wrong with it just partly stripped engine.
This now arrived and found rockers broken, which also grinded camshaft. Had spare engine, so put rockers and camshaft.
engine started and seems working fine. had a test drive and van feels underpowered. I can also hear turbo whistle, like some police siren. Read somewhere that gasket between turbo and manifold is common to fail especially on 140ps.
visually checked, and can't find air leak around. hoses and intercooler looks fine as well. Started the van other day and warning light appeared on the dash (yellow gear) checked the error and it said something about either internal or external fuel leak. all pipes looks dry. Checked the valve on the rail and it came out appart, just ordered new one and waiting until it arrives, had them failed before on another transits, but never gave this error. I also replaced rail sensor but error still appeared once revved more than 2500-3000. Thinking about pressure regulator, but can't really reach it without taking intake manifold, lots of hoses etc. I checked the live data and it shows:

At 800rpm
Injector Cylinder 1: 1.6mg
Injector Cylinder 2: -0.4mg
Injector Cylinder 3: -2.5mg
Injector Cylinder 4: 1.5
Rail pressure: from 20500 to 22500 kPa
Turbocharger: OK
Turbocharger: 0.0%
Turbocharger position 99.5%
MAF: 18 g/s
Map: 103.00 kPa

At 2000rpm

Injector Cylinder 1: 1.54mg
Injector Cylinder 2: -0.25mg
Injector Cylinder 3: -2.31mg
Injector Cylinder 4: 1.02
Rail pressure: 52000 kPa
Turbocharger: OK
Turbocharger: jumps to 200% for a sec, the goes and stays at 0.0%
Turbocharger position 99.5%
MAF: 21 g/s
Map: 105.00 kPa

these figures are with fuel leak error deleted, and id didn't came up a while.

not sure about the figures but 3rd injector is slightly more than others. can it be the one leaking?

have checked another transit 2.2 2008, and injectors are 1: 0.09 2: 0.18 3: -0.3 4:0.0. Dont even feel any vibration when sitting inside quite huge difference with 140ps one.

Have you done a full set of learns and PCM update if required etc...??

2.2 is FWD and feel quite different to the RWD...but the RWD 140's do get along ok if running well.

couldn't complete pilot correction, due unknown error. pcm updated to as high ver as could do with my clone ids

If the learns don't complete successfully, she'll never run right. I think three failed attempts will throw her into limp mode.

SCV is usually the cause of the PRV blowing...

Best path of attack is to replace SCV & PRV with genuine Ford items ....replace injectors with "known" good ones with "known" calibration codes and re-do the learns...you'll be beating your head against a wall otherwise.

Do you think this will sort turbo not kicking in problem? It didn't show any errors today, still really slow compared to 100ps rwd or 115 fwd one i have in my fleet.

Possibly, but maybe the electronic turbo actuator is not happy...but you'd think it would throw up a code if that were the case.. :?: Do you know what code reader it is..??

Have you held the boost pipe going from the intercooler to the inlet manifold and got someone to rev it to see if you have boost. The pipe is prone to splitting and causing the symptons you have .
On the sixth day God created a Sprinter on the seventh he gave it away and bought a TRANSIT

i can feel turbo working when friend revving and myself trying hold intercooler hose. Actuator works as well. Anyway, swapped prv and it made a huge difference. cant do the learning yet as it says there is no enough fuel pressure, so will do pressure regulator. Turbo still whistles.
