Ford transit fuel pump fuse keeps on blowing

Postby Jdegaris » Mon Mar 19, 2018 7:02 pm

Hi i have a ford transit mk6 2006 2.0L front wheel drive low roof short wheel base.

My problem is that the fuel pump fuse keeps on blowing. (It will turn over but will not fire up to start I have started it with easy start) I have took it to a garage and they say it's not the fuel pump it's electrical. I have had a electrician come out and look he says it fuel pump.

I feel like I am going round in circles and don't no what to do.
Any help would be appreciated

P1665 is Injection pump control module communication fault.

P0216 is Timing control circuit malfunction.

Sounds like a poorly connection or broken wiring to fuel pump...have a good look at the loom where it goes to the pump, they're sometimes known to fail. Also pump timing solenoid possibly gone south..

Electrician had a look at the wiring said everything to the fuel pump was fine.

Where would I find pump timing solenoid.

Don't believe what the electrician said, check the looms and connectors thoroughly yourself, sometimes they break inside and you can't see them. Pump solenoid lives on the pump...You'll probably have a VP30 pump.

Thanks for get back to me.

The pump was check out at R Wilkinson diesel service (stockport) They said they plugged it into a machine and it was fine. (Was not there to see it been done) I watched what the electrician today and he did check all the main wires to the plug that plugs into the fuel pump and check the main loom near the fuse box and all the relays

Just before the fuse pump fuse pops I see a little bit of smoke come from the fuel pump area

If there’s smoke before it pops, then clearly there’s an electrical fault and some things arcing!

So it’s either a faulty component like the pump, or faulty wiring in that area!

The wiring loom is known to chaff around the starter motor area, it can’t always be seen until the loom split and wires separated. Failing that, have someone else put the fuse in while you look and find the exact area it smoking.

Hi the wiring has been checked near the starter motor.

I think it maybe the fuel pump but the guy at the garage said he could replace it but still might blow the fuse cause he says it's a electrical fault to the pump.

However when I got it back from the garage the fuse was ok even when the ignition was turned on until the electrician pulled (give them a wiggle) on some wires on the back of the engine.

Will changing the fuel filter and fuel pipes help in anyway.

There's a clue right there..!!

I bet the loom is fugged in that area..

Thanks for getting back to me.

I am going to clean and check all the wiring in that area and any other wiring I can see.

Also I am thinking of changing the fuel filter.

just got under the van and the sender unit on top of the fuel tank is not connected so going to try and reconnect to see if that fixed the problem.

Don't know if the garage have removed it or it has just come lose over time

Well I tried to re-tight and it is broken so I am going to replace it. Hopefully this might be what is causing the problem
