Doors rubbing arches....

Postby gavcarter » Tue Mar 20, 2018 12:16 am

As title.
Van had LOTS of welding last year.
Noticed the doors have scraped paint of the very tops of the wheel arches.
Door seems to drop a fair bit as its opening but it shuts first time everytime, it doesn't need lifting to close it....
Does this sound normal ( the dropping not the touching)

Measure the gaps all of the way around, check if they've welded the arches but on top of the old ones or they've taken up space that should have not been taken up.

Is it catching at the front or the back? You can adjust the hinges and the door jam a little bit to get clearance.

It's mostly trial and error though.

Extreme case is move the joor jam up a bit and lift the door up by a bit of force.

The latch would locate against the jam to a point without fowling.

I did the welding.
The arches where full replacements.
Afaik the door is as high up as I can get it. There's no adjustment left on the hinges lol
Will have another look at some point though.

The part that catches is the front corner of door just behind the wing.
There is a 5_6mm gap when shut. When opened it catches the door.

Mines doing it too, only on drivers side when door fully opened, when closed gaps consistent all way round, its never been welded or had arches, I suspected the hinge pin to be worn, but was waiting for warmer weather before I investigate

You need to step out like a Lady, not like an old man leaning on the door.
