Door / courtesy switch replacement Mk6 Transit ?

Hi all I've fond a few threads on this, and the only information seems to be that you need to break it to get it off. Has anyone successfully replaced one of these switches, and can anyone confirm this switch is the correct replacement ?

It looks similar in size but obviously different - I'm wary of breaking the old one out if it's not going to be replaceable !

You don't need to break it, just drill out the rivet. N

Does that mean the replacement needs a standard size rivet to replace ?

Just use a self taping screw much easier  why do you need to replace that switch?. N

I got a bodyshop to manufacture a plate to reinforce the check strap, and it was super cheap but they must have snapped the plastic internals of the switch while working on it. They claim they can't find a replacement yet, and I'd rather just fix it then chase them...

Ah I see, good idea, I think its a fairly common part across the ford models, you would be surprised how many parts are interchangeable between models. N

Looks like the new switch I got won't be a direct replacement !

The old switch clips in to a two prong lead, and the new one has a single bar to clip something to. I can probably solder a few short leads to make the second switch usable, but it looks like it might be designed to touch the chassis and maybe complete the circuit that way ?

Any suggestions before I waste more time ?

I could just block it off, but I guess then the interior lights won't work when I open the door, and it should have been an easy fix.

(Assuming that leaving it disconnected tricks it into thinking the door is closed, otherwise it will be a problem)

Presuming you have central locking, the interior lights will work without it. The pin switch only does the lights on warning buzzer

If your new switch is only one wire, you can still use it

Of the two wires on the old switch, one is just an earth wire. You can leave this disconnected

Thanks, does this mean the other exposed metal has to be earthed though ? It looks like it might be designed to touch the frame.

The good news is....

I drilled out the old switch and looked like it wasn't even connected to the lead properly. I finally got around to fishing the lead out of the door frame and plugged it back in and it works fine. :D

In my situation save yourself some time and hassle and just pull the switch and check it before you spend hours looking for replacements online.
