Possibly a faulty ignition switch, or a poorly battery.

Check battery volts when turning the key to start, if they don't drop, then it could be the switch :)

I suspect you have a Mk7 2.4..?? (you don't say what you have)...it will have twin batteries under the drivers seat....the front one is probably fugged..

As Altransit says, you may also have a duff ignition switch.

thanks for the reply yes 2.4 350 140 ps battery's full of charge its a new ignition a few weeks old, I've been told because of the milometer going from numbers to dash's to check the fuse's and relays in the fuse box under the bonnet so I will give that a go in the morning

Have the batteries been properly "Load Tested" or just the voltage checked..??....Many batteries can seem ok and can be charged and hold voltage ok, but when loaded, they fail miserably..! The ---- on the dash usually points to a failing front battery.

It was the starter motor, just packed up stopped, what an awkward job to get the wire's off got it off in the vice jump lead's on and nothing solenoid not moving it was jammed solid and the motor just made a noise, never had that before just stopped
