Microwave in van

Postby x818 » Thu Mar 22, 2018 1:00 pm

Might be a stupid question but how can I power a microwave to warm up my dinners in work can I just use an inverter plugged into lighter socket or do I need something more substantial? Electrics aren’t my thing so forgive any stupidity on my part. Thanks
Danny

You need min of a 1600 wat inverter connected straight to the battery on my setup I have two 120 amp batteries to power inverter and a spit charger just to run a 500 wat microwave you can get 12 v microwaves but they have to bolt straight onto the battery as well look on eBay for both setups

Straight on to battery terminals I run mine with a master switch in between so I can turn off completely

That aint gonna work. You need a true sinewave inverter. Those fake inverters will kill the microwave part in the "microwave" word.
It will either burn out the transformer or the actual ray tube.

You will get much lower power (think 30+% losses) and the consumption will rise killing the transformer with heat or the ray tube.

Ps: with these heavy loads i seriously recommend using both batteries at the same time.

Thanks for the advice, now where do I get one of those without breaking the bank?

Try here:

I have this one in my own van. Works great and it will even start my heavy compressor.
