mk7 tdci injector coding problems

Postby surfing1975 » Thu Mar 22, 2018 8:24 pm

Hi all,

Having a 2 month (so far) nightmare with mk7's. First van the timing chain slipped and threatened to be a right off so I stupidly bought another mk7 rwd tdci.
Anyhow, the mk7 currently in question is a 2007 with 5 gears 100ps. It was running rough when cold and rough diesel noise over 2500 rpm under load. Change prv, scv with pcm updated. then changed map sensor, matt sensor, Fuel filter, air filter. Then i decided to do a leak back test on injectors which indicated that this is where the problem lay. So i then did a leak back test on the injectors in the other van (115ps) and they returned much better results. So i swapped them, The van ran ok but it was not perfect and i required the new codes to be entered. SOOOOOo i wrote down the codes and took it to a diesel specialist to recode. After this the van is running like a bag of nails on idle as if misfiring. The codes that i gave them were 5 digits long and i now know that they were incorrect. Took the van to someone with ids who said there was no new codes entered and the current codes were indeed 16 digits long so were probably the old injector codes. anyway inputed new 16 digit codes from off the top of the injectors but it has made no difference, tried a pump learn which failed. there is a fault code saying injector 1 has an imbalance. Question is how has this happened, it is no coincidence that an injector decided to start failing after a visit to the diesel specialist. i waited whilst they apparently recoded new injectors did a scv reprogram and pump learn and the van was w******d immediately after.

thanks for any help/advice

ps. the old injectors are now in the other van (115ps) and are working good enough. almost tempted to swap them again

You need to establish whether the injectors you wish to use are indeed ok...are they the same part number as the ones in the other engine....the part number and hence flow can differ depending on which ps engine they are in.

Leak-off test should be done at idle for 4 mins with engine warm...max limit is 40ml per injector.

The pilot learn will usually fail if the injectors aren't up to it. Were the SCV and PRV genuine Ford items..?? We've found non-genuine valves are a poor investment and you usually end up buying them again.

Hi, I had whole engine rebuild. van starting after a few turns of the key so done a leak test 1st and 3rd injector comes as folty. I've bought 4 brand new (not recon) injectors cost 800quit after fitting them my mechanic has to call for the proper man with proper electronic to code them as he couldn't do it with his laptop and OBD. cost another 100quit but it was worth it. mine is MK7 140ps before new injectors had done 320 miles on full tank now it does 460.

i did a leak back test on the said injectors and they all returned good results, they also came from a van that drove nice with good mpg. Main problem is that the diesel specialists have done something to affect the running of the van. When i confronted them about whether they recoded injectors or not they snapped at me that they had done exactly as i asked, which was to re code them with the codes i provided. This is obvious nonsense because i gave them the wrong codes, a diesel specialist would know that it required a 16 digit code. They obviously looked at the codes i gave them, called me a twat and tried to pump/pilot learn without updating codes. If they did input the 5 digit code i gave them like they said would this bugger up my injectors?

scv and prv were taken off other van, whether genuine or not i dont know .

thanks for your reply

460 miles or 740km per tank is still poor mileage for a 140..I can easily get 1000km per tank which is ~35mpg and mine is a LWB Hi-roof.

The Ford IDS injector coding system won't accept a 5 digit number and would then fail to do the rest of the procedure, it must be a 16 digit number. We still don't know it the injectors are all the same part number either....being from two different engines, they could well be different and not compatible.

There's no way to tell if the SCV & PRV from the other van are ok, they could indeed be duff themselves.

Fuel mileage is very susceptible to driver variation.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

I was led to believe that 100 and 115ps were the same and the part number 6c1q-9k546-ac is the same on both sets. With regards the scv and prv, whilst i appreciate i cannot prove they are genuine I feel this can is problem that can be put aside atm. I need advice as to why trying to re code or pump learn has affected my injection system so dramatically

That might not be the best for economy.

regarding the 5 digit code, when i confronted the diesel specialist about it not be accepted he said that they just punch the numbers into their BOSCH machine and press enter.

Obviously yours are not running well. Even with a 1000kg load in I get well over 900km or ~560miles+.

I've not used a "Bosch" machine so I can't really comment, I only have Ford IDS and Forscan with ELM327...both of them require 16 digit injector codes or they wont proceed.
