anybody made a front hub puller ?

Postby scottie » Thu Mar 22, 2018 9:18 pm

done my discs and pads a few years ago........

then a front bearing a year ago........

had to do bearing last night and ended up stripping the threads in the disc trying to remove the hub the usuall way, so had to get new discs etc again but only fitted one :)

looked at the price of pullers and they are around the £130 mark,

going to try and make one so i can change the other disc and stick in another bearing while im in there

thick piece of flat plate, with something like an m27 nut welded onto it, bolt this onto the rear where the drive shaft would go through and wind a m27 bolt through against another plate to push the hub off :? :?

Out. It doesn't have to be pressed back in considering you've cleaned it from rust

Getting the new bearing off and on the hub is the difficult bit, that's got me thinking using that tool to pull the bearing onto the hub :D , getting it in and out of the knuckle is the easy bit. N

I just get new bearing and new hub...saves a lot of grief..! It's hard to get the old bearing off the hub without the bearing falling to pieces..! Then you have to grind the inner race off anyway...pain in the ar$e.

getting the bearing off was the easy part, less than 5 mins , it was the hour or so trying to get the hub of off the strut thats the problem even though ive done it 3 times before

Aye but I'm a tight sod who doesn't like spending money   I did a bearing a couple of weeks ago, 5 mins to get the hub n bearing free from the van, a good hour getting the bearing off the hub, 15 mins getting the bearing back on the hub, then the night worrying why my van now clunks only to realise the next day I hadn't pumped the brakes and the pad was clunking in the caliper  N

Screw some long bolts into the hole where the bearing bolts to the knuckle then bolt the wheel back on, pulls it out in less then 5 minutes :D N
