Don't you have two batteries :?:

Mk7 2.4 should have two batteries...

As Altrnasit says...your front battery may be dead or dying..!

But would this cause no ignition lights as I checked batteries one was about 9 volts but did charge it but still thought there be enough to put ignition lights on as batteries been flat before but ignition lights come on

9 volts..?? Not enough for the system to work..it normally runs at ~12.6v when at rest and ~14.4v when the engine is running. Both batteries are only connected during starting.

Charging your battery is probably only masking the problem, it may well hold voltage when charged but throws the towel in when loaded...it needs to be properly "Load Tested"....The battery is probably knackered if it only shows 9volts.

You could also have a duff ignition switch...they're a common failing point.
