ABS and traction control Lights on

Postby Scotchgitt » Wed Mar 28, 2018 5:27 pm

This happened 3 days before my mot. Typical.

I also have the ——— trip and Speedo error but I believe unrelated. But who known with a transit.

I originally had front os and rear bs sensor fails and other speed related fails.

Traced the front one to a dodgy broken wire repair. I have bone another dodgy repair but that error has now gone.

I have verified the wiring to the rear ns sensor and no breaks or shorts.

Checked each plug and all looks ok.

Only the rear sensor is showing in the errors now.

I have replaced the rear sensor but still erroring.

I have ordered a second hand but guaranteed working abs module.

I’m going to strip the passenger side headlamp and fuse box behind it to get better access to the abs module wires.

When I was checking for shorts I was surprised that each of the 4 sensors had different resistances.

And when measuring the voltage (ac setting on the meter) all 4 had 1 Wire with around 0.3v but the erroring had the other Wire at 11.5v

Not sure if any of this is significant.

Check the multi plug on the front chassis leg, mine had a snapped wire but wasn't visible until I started to check them one by one

Thanks, I hope it’s that simple. That’s what I plan for tomorrow.

The fault could be with the abs ring, not the sensor, have you checked this?

What Were the codes? Are all your tyres the same size?
Have you checked the batteries?

Thanks punto443

I have searched and searched and tried all advice others were given.

I have fitted a new battery and wire brushed ( angle grinder) the abs ring.

I am going to try the os sensor on the ns wheel to see if I get a pass or fail.

The os Wire is long enough but not sure if this will confuse things or not as in effect the abs brain may think the wheel is going backward and fail it anyway.

If it works and the swapped sensor passes then I know the ring/wheel etc is ok if it fails all I have done is wasted 20 minutes.

I have 70% tread on rear tyres and 10% ( new ones ordered today) on the front but all the same size

Interesting.

Took headlight out to check the wires aren’t broken.

All secure.

But did notice yellow marker on the cover on the abs module. I guess it’s previously been changed. Unless ford mark their parts like a scrapyard does.

Put it back together and before I took it for a run I ran a scan on the error.

The front wheel sensor was back in the list.

Checked that connector ( was a little loose). Tightened and reran the check.

Only the rear sensor on the list.

So even without moving the van it knows if the circuitry is ok.

So 2 + 2

The wiring to the rear sensor meters out ok, all connectors to the abs module seem ok so hopefully my dodgy module is the culprit.........

Long Shot but I had a similar issue was at my wits end trying to sort it. IDS dint chuck any errors out at me.
It happened after I replaced my BCM from a scrapper. (to get CC and other functions)
I didn't check the fuses.
Found the break light fuse was blown. For some reason it put on the ABS light and Traction control warning lights on. Replaced the fuse all was good!.
I had Been driving about for a week with no break lights
Worth a look.

Still not fixed.

1 question if the brake pad warning light is on does that cause the abs light to come on too?

I changed the sensor and discs and pads at the rear and now the error code for the abs is no longer stored but the light goes on on the dash as soon as I drive above 15mph. But no visible error code.

So I have fixed something

The pad warning light shouldn't have any affect on the abs light.

I fixed mine a couple of weeks ago, I replaced the connector I pictured earlier and had to run a new cable from the rear wheel sensor to the connector

Any update from this, as I have exactly the same issue. No codes stored, but still both ABS and TC lights come on after driving a short distance.

Had IDS on the van last week, and it goes through the tests for ABS. Sometimes the ABS lights go out after the required few seconds, sometimes they just stay on. IDS reports it as failed to communicate with ABS module.

Where exactly is the connector plug for the ABS. I can find a big one in the front n/s of the van, near the fusebox, but not the one other people talk about. Do I need to remove the headlight to see it ?

Yes i think you need headlamp out mate, I'm going to have a look at minr tomorrow as I've had same problem for a while now (also auto locking stopped worcking) but nearly had a wee bump yesterday skidding to a baw hair from impact due to no abs

Removed all plugs and all seem ok. Fired up the van and the abs and tc lights went off as expected. Drove for a few hundred mts and they came back on. Im going to have to put the ids back on the van and check the units recieving abs pulses from each sensor whilst its driving.

I have the same problem - ABS & TC warnings lit. Permanently.

Certainly needed ABS on some dodgy windy (and windy!) single track roads on the Isle of Mull last week.

So, following this thread with interest.

andz327 - what does "but nearly had a wee bump yesterday skidding to a baw hair from impact due to no abs" mean?

"baw hair" - new one on me.
