MK 7 - 2.2 - Oil Pump U/S (Pictures)

Postby HU92 » Thu Mar 29, 2018 11:05 pm

Spec:
Transit Mk7 - 2.2 - T350 - RWD (2012)

Hi all , (Can`t remember the log in details for the old account)

Van broke down yesterday , Thought i`d share a few pictures (Since we all like pictures)
She`s been rattling for a few weeks so i was thinking the chain / tensioner is on the way out (bought a complete kit ready)
As i had planned to strip it down this coming weekend but it started rattling bad and cut out yesterday.
Restarted and has compression but sounded really bad. Killed it off and got towed back

Stripped the front off this morning and found the oil pump chain loose / no tension at all ,
This has caused the chain to grind into the casting and worn the teeth completely off the sprocket. (Is this common?)

I`m hoping with a new pump , chain + tensioner (+ a several oil filters + changes) She might be okay.
I need to get the sump off next , cross bar looks a bugger!

She may /has been starved of oil if the chains been skipping , I might be very lucky

I would be looking at big end, mains shells & pistons too.

Here's what damage looks like with failed oil pump.

Cheers

Got the sump + pump off today ,
The oil pump tensioner is just plastic  (Bad design that)
Picked the other bits of the tensioner out the sump
Just waiting for parts now / and I can test her.

Stripped a 2.4 , 90PS engine out of curiosity / see if parts were the same
It`s has an oil tensioner for the oil pump chain. (Different)

Cheers Karl , The old style looks a lot better eh
Is the mk7 2.4`s also using that plastic crap?

Well it was a rookie mistake on my part today..
Had the airgun on the fuel pump sprocket anti-clockwise trying to loosen it

People reading this in the future..
NOTE: It`s Clockwise to Loosen / Anti-Clockwise to Tighten

Set up a puller and ended up bending the bolt
The pulley was on the taper solid #airgun

Drilled a hole in the head of the bolt (Keep it centred)
and used the puller again , This split a chunk off it off
Another grab managed to free it - Lesson learnt.

New bolt from Ford was £3 ish (In stock)

Ay the air gun on a taper was the cause there.
It`s all rebuild but chapping :? , Tried to upload a 5 sec vid but no joy.
Plugged her into the modified elm tonight and reset all the learned data (for the crack)
I`ve ordered a used engine from London so hoping it will be alrite.
Case of coding in my injectors using the mod elm?

Can`t get the new ids 3 to connect at all
I`ll make a new thread about that tho.
