Ford Transit 350 2.4 LWB RWD MK6 2005 Desperate for help!

Postby ThePenguin » Tue Apr 10, 2018 11:14 pm

Hey all,

This is my first time posting so bare with me here its a big issue that I am really struggling to resolve.

So I was travelling down the A3 and all of the sudden the van de-accelerated (basically shut off the engine) there was no bangs, no knocks, nothing other than just the engine shutting off, and got recovered.

So when I went to figure out what was going on the glow plug light was flashing (engine management I believe) first thought was the EGR Valve so placed that with a new one and nothing. Van was flashing glow plugs still and just ticking over with no success. Got a mechanic round and he said starting motor. Changed that, nothing.

So I am starting to give up but I did a few more things. Checked the injectors and nothing is spitting out, checked fuel filter and its full, also checked the pipes going into the fuel filter whilst cranking it and nothing was coming out.

So I then thought Ah, fuel pump. Best way to check is to get a can of easy start and once again, just ticking over.
Checked the crank sensor and its secure with no wobbles.
Checked all fuses and relays and nada at all.
I have in the past run it down to minimum fuel so airlock was something I considered but would still start with easy start so I am now stuck.

I did have an issue during the snow spell last year that it was puffing out very large clouds of white smoke enough to cover the whole street but eventually cleared after leaving it running for a minute or two. A week later is when the transit died. So it has been off-road for a year.

My biggest worry is fuel pump due to the cost but surely easy start would have worked then?
Also is there a cut off switch for my transit? I have searched everywhere.

Any comments and suggestions would be amazing and thank you in advance.

Hi mate,

Noob question how do I find out?
Only numbers on side is 115 T350

Reg is FH05 MWM.

Also codes have been read with only a p1631
Which I believe is because it ran out of battery.

Kind regards
James

115 will be a garden variety TDDi......the Mk6 RWD TDCi is 135ps and will have wires going to the injectors.

You mentioned "easy start", does it actually fire/run briefly on easy start..?? If not I fear your timing chain may have jumped or snapped...

You may need to pop the rocker cover off to see if the rocker ladder is broken... or has pulled the bolts holding it down.

Hi again,

No wires going to injectors.
And no brief start with easy start just constant turning over.

If that’s what you believe I’ll have to get a mech to check timing.

Thanks again for your help

Checking the timing is fine...although...If the timing has jumped only 1 tooth, it should still possibly fire on easy-start, if it has jumped by more than ~2 or 3 teeth, it will have probably broken the rocker ladder or pulled the bolts and probably won't fire at all.

The diesels don't have one...only the petrol engine machines have them, I believe they're up in/under the passenger footwell if you have a petrol engine.

hope you checked the cam carrier on top of the head for loose bolts or broken bits . Usualy the inlet side cam carrier would be damaged when chain jumps .
