Power loss and cutting out

Postby VanmanSB » Fri Apr 20, 2018 11:43 pm

The van feels as though your driving with the hand brake on or your about to run out of diesel.

It's worst in lower gears. It will also cut out at traffic lights.

What symptoms would cause this? The garage and electrician didn't find anything wrong.

Definitely sounds like the SCV and PRV valve syndrome, especially if yours is a 2.4

It can be done by the DIY mechanic (I did mine) but it's not the easiest as the bits are difficult to get to, especially the SCV which is on the back of the fuel pump. You then need to have it plugged into IDS (or forscan) to have the pump pilot learns done.

Not a cheap job if you take it to a garage, I'm glad I did my own and has given me the confidence to perform other repairs.

Mine was also doing this before I changed the SCV/PRV (This is a video of my actual van) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8KUqWBnShY

That's interesting I've never heard of the psv and prv valve before. Interesting how the aa guy, mechanic and electrician all thought it was the starter motor which never made sense to me. I can't see how the starter motor would cause those symptoms.

It's pretty common, when I was trying to sort mine there appeared to be quite a few with similar issues, especially the 115bhp model.

I had exactly the same symptoms as you describe.
