Hello there!
I’m new to the forums and new to owning transits.
I’ve just started up my own gardening/landscaping business and need a little advice on what to be looking out for when buying a used transit tipper/dropside. I really like the mk6 - I’ve driven several before and you always see plenty around. Plus the fact a good friend of mine adviced me a mk6 is better than an early mk7 - reliability wise.
I’m pretty set on getting a mk6 tipper or dropside - however I have no idea what I’m looking for - that’s where I’m hoping you guys can help me out. I’m viewing an X-reg tipper tomorrow that looks really tidy - it’s done 160k; aluminium body; no service history and they are asking £3500.
1. Is this a fair price for this van? - (I know it’s hard to say without seeing it).
2. What would you class as high mileage and should this put me off?
3. Are there any common faults with this vehicle that you lot know of?
4. What’s the recommended mileage for changing major service parts - e.g. timing chain; etc (just so I don’t get landed with too many surprise bills).
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Cheers then.
