List of repairs help. Transit mk7 85 t300.

Postby rockymtnslayer » Tue Apr 24, 2018 10:05 am

Hi all, ive just heard back from my garage that i use where ive put the van in to get the back brakes done and theyve given me a list of other repairs.

Rear brake disks and pads
Rear brake lines
Needs injectors seals and rough idle issue (maybe new injectors)
White smoke on startup cold, burning smell in cabin
Needs 4 new tyres
Rust issues (my transits rusted really badly this winter)
Due a full service

But they wont give me a fixed price or even estimate. It looks to be really expensive and due to the age 08 and mileage 100k+ i am not sure its worth repairing.

Anyone recommend a transit garage in edinburgh?

Not sure what i am asking, i guess when do you call it quits with a van. Once i start repairing rust will it just keep getting worse? Injectors expensive?

I bought it last year for 2.5k so no biggie if i should get rid.

If it is tidy and little rot underneath which is salvageable and the engine is in good order then it may be worth doing.

At a reasonable guess I'd say all in a grand.

New rear brakes and brake pipes.
Diagnostics and fuel system components (prv/scv injector test) with updates. (Leak off test will see if the injectors need replacing-this may be where the wheels fall off if the they need replacing@165-300 per injector.)

Service oil and filters etc.

Another unknown is underneath, are there signs of holes or even more rot that will cost a lot to repair? Or is it a bit of rust with 1 or more small holes then a clean up and seal?

Any fault codes that need addressing?

Egr blowing by? Smoke in the cabin? Injector seals? Exhaust?

Is the clutch good? Or anything else that can count as an expense that is in good order and counting as a plus to keep it?

It really is your call unfortunately but imo if it is a rot box and feels old and tired and not worth 1000 min to make good then I'd bin it and buy a gentlemen's van :P

Don’t see why they can’t give you an estimate?

Brakes etc are straight forward enough, as is the welding.

They could easily charge you an hours labour to diagnose the injectors?
Check the dtc’s and perform a leak off test?

I can’t see the problem? And I’m a only a daft joiner!
Surely even a mechanic can spell estimate?

I have an 08 RWD 140 and is soon coming up on 80k miles (~128k km)...is running perfectly, no leaks and no hint of rot...should last a goodly amount of time yet if looked after.....I serviced, oil & filters last weekend...due a new set of tyres in ~5,000km... but I have no issues with keeping it.
