I'm gonna try to post a photo of silver nitrate stains, but I have not had success with posting photos here lately. Seriously, I have washed and scrubbed the area, it is 100% stain.
:) it's not that bad!

It's like a negative of a vitiligo beard... You might even start a new fashion... You never know.

Oh well, thanks for saying so

I've just found out, I can wash it out with sodium cyanide!

Hmm not sure the WHO would recommend that...

"Sodium cyanide, like other soluble cyanide salts, is among the most rapidly acting of all known poisons. NaCN is a potent inhibitor of respiration, acting on mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase and hence blocking electron transport. This results in decreased oxidative metabolism and oxygen utilization. Lactic acidosis then occurs as a consequence of anaerobic metabolism. An oral dosage as small as 200–300 mg can be fatal."

Cody on Cody's Lab YouTube channel. He demonstrated it on his own hand! In another video he actually drank a bit of very diluted cyanide to prove that we can cope with it in small amounts! I love that guy!

Hey daraioj,

How are you doing?

I'm going to make another attempt with the van on Sunday. Have no idea what I'll start on yet. But that's the plan.

I had to make a pretty major adjustment to the drivers door last Sunday, didn't finish till 9pm. I might post it on "What did you do to your Transit today.

I'm good! Thanks. Waiting for my SCV to arrive. Hopefully that'll stop the stupid hunting.
I'm planning on cleaning the inlet manifold while I'm at it... That'll be fun!

Keep us posted on your progress!

Yes, I think that will be fun

By the way, the mechanic I've just started using near me says the seals for the diesel injectors are always copper.

Also, I have diesel pooling around the injectors, it looks quite bad, although what do I know?

Yeah it's quite common.

There's two seals.

Image

9229A is the copper washer.

Then there's a rubber seal on the crankcase cover. (Doesn't appear in the picture)

In my opinion the best thing to do is remove injectors, have then cleaned and tested. Clean or recut the seats on the cylinder head. New copper washers, clean the rubber seals on the crankcase cover.
Refit injectors. Replace the clamps for the upgraded ones if it's not been done yet (they're about £10 each at ford). New bolts torqued properly... Do a pilot learn and forget about it!

Btw, the clamps have their part number stamped on them. Ppl at ford will be able to tell you whether they're the old ones or not.

Should be 6C1Q-9L535-AC for the old ones and 6C1Q-9L535-AD for the new ones.

All change, no work on the Transit today :x

I don't think I'll ever buy another van again.

This one has been too much trauma and work already.

I don't fancy going through all that again

I think the problem is finding one that's been properly looked after.
I guess once you get it all sorted and running well all it takes is regular maintenance and a bit of care every now and then.

I took the danged thing in for a service this week, and they found £2,000 of work that needed doing to it. That included changing the injector seals. I got £750 of the most urgent stuff done, than the rest I'll have to stagger through the year.

I mentioned this to the solicitor dealing with my claim against the dealer, it seems they can take this into account.

Got the top door-hinge location ground down recently though, so the door fits a bit better.

I would no way be brave enough to change the injector seals myself. He said invariably the rubber seals that are also there will break up and needs replacing, and they're £35 each. I would probably drop stuff down into the cylinders.

So I know they need replacing now, because oil is pooling at the injectors, being forced out under pressure, and yes, it makes it run a bit ropey and smokey.
