2007 Mk7, any cheap reliable options for extra remote fobs?

Postby Karst » Thu May 03, 2018 7:10 pm

Hi Folks,

That's about the size of it. I only have one key remote fob for my 2007 Mk7 - the blue one. I have been quoted £190 from 2 sources to get a duplicate. Any better offers out there?

Karsty.

There is a previously owned fob on ebay for £30 and more options if it's gone.

You'll need a key cut to match your current one, should be easy for any locksmith to do.

Then you need the remote and key programmed to the van. This can be done by some locksmiths, sorry I don't know how much.
It can also be done with ids, the ford diagnostics system, by a ford dealer or by someone with a 'private' copy.

The auto lock function could be turned off at the same time. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=186813
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

The trouble is, no one I've spoken to will programme a second hand or after market fob, they say it's too risky, they are unreliable. They will only use a brand new one from a source they are happy with.

If you want a warranty then pay the money.

Apparently genuine fobs are available via the web from ford dealers at reduced prices if you can get someone to do the programming.

As above, second hand key . The key is in two parts and can easily be separated , you then need a empty case and key blank ,cost about £5 off eBay or Amazon. Get the key blank cut and fit the second hand blue part to the newly cut key. Vantuner based in Uxbridge can code the new key to your van. That's how I did mine. Hope that helps.

OE Ford blank key off e**y, cut at local key cutters, and program using IDS - got Vantuner to code mine.

I've used a spare I picked up from a scrappies and programmed myself, never had a problem wit second hand keys other than the case itself.
A cheap option for programming is downloading the forscan program and a using modified elm327 (off fleebay £10 - £20) or something similar.
You register with the forscan site and do it yourself.
Key blank to suit blue fob and cutting was about £15 iirc from timsons.
Whole job done and you've got a handy code reader to keep for the future too to change when and how it locks etc.

Ok Folks,

Today I locked my one and only key in the back of my van, and had to call out the RAC to get me back in to it. That was the last straw. I phoned up Ford, they quoted me £260 for a cut and programmed key  I told them I get a whole van for that.

So I have just bought this -https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-TRANSIT ... 2749.l2649

So I guess the next important thing is to programme it. I've got a Windows 10 laptop now, and the lead to connect it to the OBD2 port. Does that mean I can programme it myself? Do I need to get it cut first?
