Can't open sliding door

Hi...

Got a bit heavy handed while trying to open the sliding door on my mk6. Have managed to rip the handle off the outside, and the damn door won't open from the inside.

I've got 2 questions... How do I get the damn door open, and how easy is it to replace the outside handle, assuming I can get the door open again...

If you can get behind the inside door card up and right to where the outside handle is you may be able to get to the cable and pull it to open the door, the handle is easy to replace.

When you say you can't open it from the inside do you mean it is jammed or the inner handle isn't connected or the door is locked? Do you have the locking knob that is inside on the left halfway up?

The handle on the outside pulls the lever at the lock if that cable is jammed in the pulled handle position then the lock won't unlock

Hey Scottflit,

I had a Mk6 till recently, and the sld decided to lock and stay locked. the only way I could open it was to, from inside the van, prise open the whole locking cartridge with pliers, and manipulate switches and levers inside it to get it open, and install a "new" second hand unit from eBay or KITS.

The outside handle is probably in the open position as it flaps when I try it. I've got the knob, which moves when I lock/unlock the van doors but I can't get the door to open on the internal handle. Something feels like it's jammed. I'll try and get the internal card and ply off, and see what it looks like inside.

Once the card is off push the handle cable back to the lock then lock and unlock the van then pull the interior handle and with any luck it should open

That seems to have cracked it... Now to try and find a permanent fix.
