The garage also used cavity wax, I think it's been as thorough as possible. But I'll definitely bear in mind what you say - I'll get a cheap borescope so I can have a closer look, check no spots have been missed and keep an eye on how it goes.

Do you think there would be any benefit plugging the holes you mentioned to give water fewer ingress points?

Some will say yes and no doubt, some no.
Me, I closed off as many as I could. After spraying waxoyl into these cavities for so long I hope that the internal surfaces are coated therefore if there is any moisture due to condensation then it will lay on thw waxoyl thus hopefully causing no rust.
I guess you just have to do your best ,check it regularily and keep the rust proofing as intact as you can.
Just as a note , I now make my own "waxoyl" using finely grated candle wax, white spirit and chainsaw oil. Google it and you can get the recipe .
It seems to cling ,and run if you dilute it enough , and after using it for two years now It looks like it'll do the job.

Back in the day our mk 1 service van had the gear oil pump on the osr of the van and it would leak or slip out of its strap and leak oil all over the rear corner when we cut it up for scrap because it was rotten the back corner when cleaned off was just as it came out of the factory my first mk1 escort I red leaded it underneath but in less then a year it was really scabby so I sprayed it with wast oil and it helped holding back the rust for quite a few years your best off with a oil based product painting or under sealing anything that sets is a wast of time you have only have to look at modern cars and van they use a lot of wax based products as rust protection

I found a restoration & undersealing specialist in Johnston (Scotland) who use Dinitrol, this stuff dries to a hard wax finish a bit like tar. They advise you to go back for yearly checkups to keep it sealed. I thought about doing it myself with an angle grinder, POR-15 and waxoyl but probably wouldn't have made much improvement over doing nothing at all since I don't have a ramp or pressure spray to get in the nooks & crannies... or even a clue what I'm doing. The garage ended up finding some rust holes needing welded which a previous mechanic had slathered with silicone to hide it from MOT inspections. Will have to see how it's doing this time next year but I'm pretty hopeful.

Hi mate just bought a 2012 transit lwb to convert, wonders how your getting on?
