Door locks.

Postby danc001 » Sat May 19, 2018 5:46 pm

I got a mk6 transit, its basic model with no central locking.

The side and rear doors dont seem to lock. They close and the only way of opening them is turning and hold key clockwise then pulling door handle. The locks dont turn anticlockwise either. Is this normal?

This will be an ex Royal Mail van with slam locks them?

That’s how they’re meant to be. If you can find a Transit the same age in a breakers you could change to normal type locks

There's nothing wrong with slam locks. If you have them they are a nice security upgrade from normal locks, why swap them back at extra cost?????

All my vans have been slam-locked and now I dont think I'd want a van without them.

My advice would be to keep your keys on a chain or a "key-back" or similar to save you locking your keys in though.

Didnt think of it like that to be fair. Just seems wierd not actually locking the door. Wondered if it was normal
