did one with left hand drill bit and extractor quite easily. cant remember if i needed the extractor or if the drill bit did it alone but it came out fine just have to be really careful obviously

Cheers guys unfortunately nothing to weld onto so I’m just gonna carefully drill it and then try and stud extractor, fingers crossed it sorts it

Been on the phone to a local helicoiler guy, he doesn’t sound optimistic but said he’ll take a look and may be able to fit helicoil in but said on transits he’s sure it’s a replacement head so that might be my weekend sourcing a head and rebuilding top end :?

sh*t, sorry it didn't work out. i center punched mine and used a 3mm or 3.5mm left hand bit and i guess i got lucky. I hate that transits have only 1 bolt for the injectors and this is exactly why

Its such a crap design isn’t it, why use such a thin long bolt!
I tried punching it out with a nice sharp punch that did nothing, I used a blow torch briefly but didn’t like using it near the valves so stopped that straight away!!
I can feel it sticking out the bottom and have tried getting a finger or two to work it back but in end tried the drill method.
I’m praying this guy can sort it for me tomorrow morning otherwise I’ll be looking for a recon cylinder head

Isn't it an ally casting bolted to the head?
There's a thread somewhere

I would get a solid thread insert that has an internal and external and thread loctite it in. It's so much better than a helicoil as there's nothing to fail

From what I’m reading, there doesn’t seem much on 2.2 can carriers but the 2.4 which snap it seems you need a matched carrier to the head so I presume it will be the same for a 2.2.
That sounds like a needle in a haystack, this guy is supposed to be very good going round the local garages sorting issues out and one mechanic has told me if anyone can sort it it’s him, I’m praying he can but I’m doubtful myself.
