How to get cruise control Q

Postby Erik M » Wed May 23, 2018 5:14 pm

Compadres!

I got this 2007 Ford Transit, formerly a transporting the elderly.
So it is high and got windows all around.
Perfect for the job of transporting me and the better half to 24h Le Mans 2018 - and a place to stay while there.

When I took over this bus there were a few issues, but I found a slightly never one to strip for parts (slightly crashed).
One thing I recovered was the much nicer looking steering wheel.
And it had the buttons for cruise control!

Problem is how to get it to work...
All parts seem to already be installed, when it comes to cables and wiring.
What am I missing?

Thankful for any light shed in this...

Top right of every page on this forum is a search box.

If you have the correct bcm then all you need is to have the programming changed to enable the cruise function.
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Sorry, brick will not last long enough.

Correct, top right, search box. Done that.

BCM?

Who does the re-programming?
Ford service doesn't seem to know this....

Well had you read any of the threads on fitting cruise control that a search should have found you would have found out that the BCM is the Body Control Module.
It is the interface between most switches on the van and effects that result, it lives behind your glove box, comes in four versions and only two can do the cruise control magic.

You would also have learned that Vantuner in the UK can do a cruise activation by parcel post, you send him you bcm, he works his magic, you reinstall and cruise should work.

I suspect any ford tech who knows what he is doing rather than blindly following the computer prompts could do it, but first you have to get past the receptionists who blindly follow what the computer says.

So if I have the wrong BCM it doesn't matter if I send it to "vantuner".
And if I have the right one, then I don't need to.

VeightDave, please dial back on the attitude.

Sorry if you don't like my attitude.
I'm an old curmudgeon, asking me to dial it back is like a red flag to a bull.
Just put up with the fact that I am actually helping you, although I appear to be doing all the work for you.
Why should I ?
Did you actually bother searching?
Did you bother to follow the link to Vantuner's site?
The answers to you questions are all in this forum or on that site.

Anyway.

If you have the wrong spec BCM it will not do cruise control.

If you have the right spec, it still has too know your vehicle is configured for cruise.

Wow, you're asking one of the most helpful and respected members of this forum to dial back his attitude :?:

Does it occur to you, that the guys on here get fed up answering the same old questions over and over, for newbies who can't be bothered to read the forum rules, or just do a simple search for the help that they need, before asking.

Dave has given you all the information that you need, so I would suggest that some thanks are needed, rather than the attitude that you've shown him

And I am fairly feed up with peeps diverting to the search function EVEN AFTER it had been pointed out that it was a less productive.

VeightDave - I sure as hell appreciate that people are willing to help others.
And when I can I return the favour then I help as free and generous as I can.
Might not be on this forum - but the debt will get paid.

Anyhow...

So two BCM's won't work and the other two are either already programed, or can be.
Correct?
How are they marked, so I can check which way to go from here?
And with some luck I can maybe scrounge the BCM from the donor car...cass.

I've been a bit pre-occupied with the rear calipers.
So... Might have been more grumpy than intended - apologies give to all around.

The Van Tuner link seem to be a total boon, many thanks.

Which I'm certain a search would have found.

Weeeell who would have thought that "cruise control" was NOT the EXACT FRAKKING phrase to use.

That is the attitude of a bully, nothing else.
So perhaps you should dial back a bit weightydave - unless that is what you want to come across as.

Everyone else - sorry to have brought that to the front with your hero.
