Engine cranks but no attempt to fire

Postby Chase2018 » Thu May 24, 2018 10:31 pm

I have a 2008 2.4 100hp ford transit.

The vehicle isn't starting. It's cranks but no attempt to fire. Whilst cranking we cracked the injector pipe and loads of air came out so we closed it and repeated that procedure for about 1 hour and there's still loads of air come out not allowing the fuel pressure in the rail to build up.

The fuel coming from the high pressure pump dosnt seem that strong would anyone have any ideas

As soon as you crack a fuel line the pcm will stop the pump from delivering fuel. I suspect you have an air leak upstream of the pump...possibly the filter head is cracked or lines to/from it are leaking. Make sure the fuel filter is full of fuel too.
Also check the injector leakback lines and "o" rings to make sure they're in good nick.

It a TDCI so it's designed to purge air out itself :D N

What Ned said...no need to bleed a TDCi.

You need a code reader to find out if there are any stored errors and what is happening when you crank it.

It could be an air leak or something electrical.

It won't start on easy start either. Put a diagnostic laptop on and there are no faults the live date for the rail pressure is 8000 kpa

If it won't start on easy start...your cam timing may be out.

Can the diagnostics you have tell you if the cam and crank are in sync ?

If they aren't then there will be no fuel pressure or injector function.
