Timing issues on 75ps duratorq engine

Postby doomsicle » Sun May 27, 2018 1:10 am

Hope someone can help?

My 75ps 2.4 duratorq engine in a rwd convoy occasionally throws up p1563 and p1664 but starts on the second turn. If the fuel pump doesn't request a stop it rattles for a second or two every time it starts now. The engine had a new timing kit fitted before i bought it 3 years ago and developed the issue about 5 months ago.

Ive read through a tonne of posts and discussions about this and believe it may be the tensioner that is at fault. Possibly an aftermarket kit was fitted with the older type of tensioner, i can only guess until i can get the front off.

I've read a lot about the tensioners and guides that needed to be updated and about the relevant TSB and problems with the ford dealers.
Taz666 posted this a long time ago:

Timing chain tensioner 1138760
Timing chain tensioner arm (66kW (90PS) engine only) 1096496
Timing chain tensioner arm (All - except 66kW (90PS) engine) 1112290
Timing chain (66kW (90PS) engine only) 1099874
Timing chain (All - except 66kW (90PS) engine) 1102609

I initially assumed it meant that the 75ps engine fell into the (all except (90ps) engine) category but then read this post http://www.fordtransitforum.co.uk/forum ... 5&t=120647 that threw me off as it says he used a 1096496 tensioner arm.
Should the 1138760 tensioner go with the 1112290 tensioner arm or is it the 1096496 tensioner arm in a 75ps engine?

Sorry for adding to the long lists of posts on this, think ive read everything about it twice and still not sure with this engine.

Thanks

yes the 75 ps is a different timing chain and the 90/115/125 are different 2 :)

you need to get the modified tensioner
