aux belt tensioner bolt broken

Postby the dutch guy » Sun Jun 03, 2018 4:57 pm

on the drive the battery light went off (i mean on) and the AC stopped beign cold.

belt was flapping under the van.
drove final mile home and found that the tensioner was flapping in the breeze. the hex bolt has snapped clean off.
considering the location i have to take a wild guess and expect to have to remove the engine to fix this bloody thing or use a angle grinder to cut out a piece of the wheelarch.

2 questions:

1: is the waterpump also on the aux belt on a TDCI? aka: can i drive without the belt? (i got 300Ah of battery power, so dont give a crap about the alternator not working)

2: any idea's that dont involve cutting the van in half?

It appears that the alternator has to come out then there is a bracket held by three bolts on the side of the block that supports the tensioner.

mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

when to the stealership and asked for help. the apprentice quickly went back in after he realized it was way over his skill level. out came old bearded man.
old guy looked and felt, went back in. came back with some shop made welded together plier-thing.
after 30 seconds he had the bolt end out.

now off to spend another 200 european roebels for new tensioner and belt...

the stealer wanted 320 roebels just for the tensioner.
