Clutch pedal intermittantly drops

Postby roperman » Tue Jun 05, 2018 5:11 pm

Hi,

got a 2006 mk6 2.4 rwd 5 speed Transit, and occasionally the pedal feels like it has dropped half way, and you can't get it into gear (clutch not releasing). It is very intermittant, most of the time I can't get it to do it, but some of the other drivers have been stuck for a while as they are unable to set off, but it always magically starts working again.

I had thought it would be a master or slave cyl, but i've replaced them both and its still doing it. Is there anything internally on the clutch that could be causing this, or is it likely either an air bubble (would it be intermittant) or a faulty part?

Thanks,

Danny

It may be air still in the system did you reverse bleed it if you bleed it in the normal way you may not have got all the air out

No, I just bled it out of the nipple.

Thing is the pedal is fine 99.99% of the time, it just does it randomly. Would a small amount of air do this? I would have thought it wouldn't be intermittent if it was air in hydraulics.

How old is the clutch.

If it gets more frequent then your clutch is worn out.
The slave over-extends and leaks a tiny amount of fluid, then when the driver releases the pedal the master does not return properly.

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Used to happen to me, especially at motorway speeds. You can lift up the pedal with your foot and it will reset. Hasent happened to me for over 6 months, and I have no idea why.

Symtoms like this might be caused by a worn out dual mass flywheel. Do you ever hear a rattle when switching the engine off? Has your starter motor ever failed and been clogged with metallic dust?

Hi,

clutch feels and bites fine. It has been on the vehicle since at least when we got it though, so it may be worn spines etc. Its got 250k on it and it may be original! We bought it on 145k, but it mainly does motorway miles.

It has a solid flywheel on it (saw this when the engine got swapped 70k ago).

I was thinking it was a dodgy new master cylinder but if people have had this before and its been solved by a new clutch assembly I'll do that.

Anyone know if you can get the 5 speed box out far enough to do this without dropping the subframe? As i know both rear bolts will be stuck.

Cheers,

Danny
