Aircon issue

Postby steamdrivenandy » Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:06 pm

My '08 Mk7 went back to the dealer yesterday to sort a number of issues. One being a heater that pumps hot air, whatever the setting. In addition when you hit the aircon button it blows even hotter. I got a call this evening to say they've regassed it but it's still blowing hot. Their guys are going to have a further look at it tomorrow.

What do the symptoms suggest is wrong?

The motorised actuator on that controls the temp mixing flap will have packed in.
It’s mounted low down on the heater box in the footwell

Probably, it’s quite common

I'm not paying, it's part of a package of things they should have sorted before I purchased the van. They said they wanted to regas before doing anything else, just in case that was all that was wrong. I told them I thought there was another issue as the unit wouldn't let ambient air in, no matter what setting was selected. At least I should get really chilled air when they do sort the issue out.

I collected the van last Friday and drove it back down from Blackpool. Had to turn off the aircon as it was getting too chilly!!!!!

It was the motor that controls air distribution that had blown. The dealer replaced it and the regassed system is super cool.

They also replaced the two 10.5 year old rear tyres and fitted a second leisure battery, so now the fridge, lights and pump all work whilst not on a mains hook-up as they should.

Now I'm happy with the van.

Keep th aircon on and turn the heat up, that is how it supposed to work. Its to dry the air, that it also cools is a nice bonus.

Greetings from new member..

I have a 2010 transit with the same issue, no matter the setting it heats (I mean really heats).
I have just driven from Denmark to Alsace, France that was not a pleasant drive.

Does anybody have the part number and any details about how complicated the job changing the motor is?

Sorry, I had the job done by the dealer that sold me the van so I don't know any details. I've seen the part on several internet sites and know that you have to remove some of the under dash cladding to access it. My sympathies because I know that the whole dashboard area gets baking hot, even if you do get the settings so that there's no airflow into the cab. Once repaired though, rest assured, it does return to normal temperatures.

Just back from France today, so did no check the replies until now, thanks!

Open windows, shorts, t-shirt, bare feets and headphones on high vol. :-D
Headphones made it OK, to go with windows open, the wind noise was killing me on the way to France.

OK, now have some info and can google a bit around to see if it is something I can change myself, thanks again.

Three weeks on and the aircon is blowing only slightly cool. That suggests that the gas has leaked away. Maybe not surprising given that the aircon probably hadn't been used for a couple of years before I got the dealer to settle the system.

Any ideas as to what and where a leak might be?
