cam cover seals leaking?

Postby husheechee » Fri Jun 15, 2018 8:35 am

Yo guys, I would appreciate some help and advice on this one.
My tranny is on an 07 plate and is 2.2 85 t260, ive done some investigation by removing the air box and cleaning thouroughly around the injectors and found that I have oil bypassing the rubber seals around the injector and the cam cover? then pooling and eventually running down the front of the engine onto me driveway..bloody mess!.
This is only happenning on the left injector, its not vast but annoying! the other three are fine.
I asked a couple of peeps and they said the injectors would have to come out to enable new seals to be fitted..but..it appears that this is not as simple as I thought and could be a tad expensive? (I saw the video on utube where they used a mini JCB to pull the injector out!..ouch)...so more advice from other "peeps" who said that I could use sillicone gasket seal daubed around the leaking injector seal (after scrouplously cleaning and degreasing) and that would do the trick.
They said the sillicone was heat proof and "up" to the job...whats your thoughts..is it that a bona fide quick fix?..the old gal has done 180.000 without to much problem over the last 7 years..over to you for advice.
Regards

I would be telling those other "peeps" to wind there necks in as they don't appear to be giving very good advice.

The oil is being forced out as that injector is probably loose letting compression pressure from cylinder into engine space and if injector is moving then letting oil past the seal in the rocker cover.

Injector out, clean & recut seat and refit with New rocker cover seal, copper washer, upgraded clamp and new bolt. (As bolts are stretch bolts and likely to snap if reused).

thanks guys..I thought I was being told a load of bull about sillicone..hmmm..now are the injectors held in with a bolt/clamp arrangement and possibly gunge/rust seized and need a bit of gentle persuasion?..will I need a mini JCB or any other specialist tools?.
I read the other post (thanks for the link) and that makes perfect sense to remove the crud around the injector seating and renewing copper washers..wouldn't have known about the one time use of the bolts so a big thank you for that advice.
By the way..what happens if its left just as it is? should it be done asap?
Thanks again

If the seal round the injector is leaking it usually means the injector is/was bouncing around and working the seal.
