It certainly seems a lot for a van that is spares or repairs, unfortunately it's going to be a struggle for you to get your money back (which is wrong). You have to always check the mot mileage before. Good luck.

It is possible (but not necessarily easy) to get a refund on 2nd hand cars. Against my better judgement I bought a Peugeot 206 for about £2.5k a few years ago. Within a week it cut out on the road. I paid for recovery back to the dealers (a couple of hundred from Wales to Bristol) and got a full refund when I threatened legal action. I still paid the recovery costs. If I remember right, I think the law of 'fit for purpose' applies on a value basis for vehicles from £2k+.

I.e. if you spend £2k+ on a vehicle you can reasonably expect it to be fit for purpose, and if the vehicle is found not to be you are likely to win a dispute in Court. I never checked the receipt for 'spares or repairs', but in your case it sounds like possible mis-selling anyway. I do not think those pieces of paper hold the value the dealers think they do- Courts are discretionary, and results will vary dependant upon situation.

The dealer in my case was actually very helpful and professional once I had reminded him of the law, and I understand it was a shame for him the sale fell through.
